Most of the girls start menstruating in between the age of 9 to 18, with an average age of approximately 12 years. Amenorrhea is a menstrual state considered by absence of menstrual periods for more than three months of menstrual rotations or in other words Amenorrhea is absence of menstruation. There are two different forms of amenorrhea known as primary amenorrhea and secondary amenorrhea. When menstruation has not started till the age of 16 than it is called as Primary amenorrhea. In case of Secondary amenorrhea menstruation has begun but has stopped for long time.
Primary amenorrhea
Primary amenorrhea is taken in consideration only when if the girl is beyond age 16 and she has undergone other usual change that occurs in teenage years. Primary amenorrhea may happen with or without other signs of teenage.
Secondary amenorrhea
Because of some physical reasons and usually of later start of menstrual cycle; a condition occurs in which menstrual periods were come one time usual and regular but later on become abnormal and irregular or sometime absent. One form of secondary amenorrhea is Lactational amenorrhea that occurs in the period of breastfeeding. Some women also make use of lactational amenorrhea as a contraceptive. This kind of natural family planning is helpful only during the initial six months of restricted breastfeeding.
