<<HOME <<Disease HOMEAsthmaAsthma is an airways disease that affects the airways path that carry air to and from in lungs. People who are suffering from this chronic situation (long-lasting or continuing) are said to be asthmatic. Basically Asthma is a condition of lung that affects the bronchial tubes (airways) of lungs, due to that the tissues in inside layer of airways get swell and airways become narrow. This makes person hard to breathe. Main signs of asthma are wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath and result of this contraction of the airways. The main reasons contributing to asthma are swelling in airway lining, narrowing of the muscles that cover the airways (known as bronchoconstriction), or both. Swelling in airways may also be come with increase in mucous production, which also worsens the airways blockage. Swelling makes the airways extremely sensitive toward irritants in air like cigarette smoke, air pollution, allergy or animal dander. When these extremely sensitive airways become too thin, air cannot flow effortlessly in and out of the lungs, that making breathing complicated. This leads to usual asthma signs, like coughing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and wheezing. This condition is called as an asthma exacerbation or simply asthma attack. Asthma is an inconsistent or uneven disease, which means signs and symptoms can blaze up from time to time. Means sometime you might go for weeks or even months without experience of any asthmatic attack. Asthma is an incurable disease. However, with proper treatment and care a person with asthma can live a normal and active life.
