Canker sores are painful and shallow sores inside the mouth. Mainly they are red in colour or sometimes may have a white covering over them. One might get Canker Sores inside of the lips, or cheeks, the base of gums or under the tongue. Canker sores and fever blisters are different, fever blisters are generally develop on the outside of lips or on the corners of your mouth. There are three main types of Canker Sores:Minor canker soresThis is most common form of canker sore. It is an oval lesion, with around 1/3-inch width and it clears by own in 10 to 12 days. Minor canker sores are not serious but they can be very painful.Major canker soresThese are big lesions with asymmetrical boundaries and it can last in months or sometime a years. They frequently heal with broad scarring.Herpetiform canker soresThese are group of lots of tiny lesions that may unite to form a sole large ulcer. Herpetiform canker sores mainly develop later in life and they may last in a week to a month or more.Anybody can get Canker sores, but teenagers and women get them more frequently. Canker sores may run in families, but they are not infectious. Exact causes of canker sores are still not known, but they may be triggered by tension, poor diet, and food allergies and during menstrual periods.
