Bringing a sore throat, sneezes, and sniffles and annoying cough, the common cold holds all of them, time to time. In medical terms common cold is popular as “Viral upper respiratory tract infection”. It is a self-limited infectious sickness that can be caused because of a various types of viruses. Approximately 200 different types of viruses are responsible for the common cold. Because lots of different type of viruses can cause a common cold and constantly new cold viruses are developing, so that the body never fight against all of them. Because of this reason, colds are a regular and chronic problem. In fact, kids in preschool can have 6 to 12 colds per year while teenagers and adults usually have two to four colds per year. Almost everyone is familiar with the feeling (symptoms) of common cold, like painful throat, blocked or runny nose, sneezing, and tearing. Colds are very common but are more frequent in small kids and it reduces as age increases. Common cold is rarely risky to healthy adults or children, but may rarely be dangerous to infants, and the elderly or people whom already at-risk groups. Most of the infected people recover from a common cold in about a week or 10 days. If symptoms don't recover, consult your doctor.
