<<HOME <<Causes & Symptoms HOMESymptoms and Causes of AbscessThere are many reasons of abscess. An abscess may appear after an injury get infected by bacterial reaction and cannot drain. Abscesses may also develop as a result of exterior injuries or from interior infections. Abscesses come about when a region of tissue becomes contaminated (infected) and the body's immune system attempts to fight it. White blood cells move through the blood vessels toward the boundaries of infected area and gather within the damaged tissue. During this procedure, pus forms. Pus is basically combination of fluid, living and dead white blood cells, bacteria, dead tissue, and foreign substances. Abscesses can develop in almost each part of the body. It may be caused due to infectious organisms, parasites, and foreign materials. Skin Abscesses can be simply seen; it is red in colour, raised, and painful. Abscesses in other regions of the body may not be noticeable, but they may cause important organ damage. Abscesses can be caused due to small break and cut of the skin, barrier of sweat glands and oil (sebaceous) glands, and irritation of hair follicles. A common bacterium, like staphylococci, is the most common cause, even though the bacteria responsible for Tuberculosis (TB) are a main abscess-forming type. Sometime fungal infections also cause abscesses, while amoebae are a key cause of liver abscesses. People with weaken immune systems easily get infected with abscess. The symptoms of an abscess mainly depend on the place of the abscess, but in general; an abscess becomes a compressible and painful mass that is red, warm to the feel, and tender. In next stage, it become pointed and come to a head. Pustule drainage and natural burst may occur. Most of the abscesses will get worse without care. The infection can also potentially increase in deeper tissues, and sometime also the bloodstream. In sever cases abscess cause vomiting, fever, and intolerable pain
