Athlete's foot is more common in teens and men. It is comparatively rare in children below the age of 12, and in women. As its name suggests, athlete's foot is more commonly attack people who play lots of sport. This is because they frequently use common places like shower and locker rooms that helps in spreading of infection. Sport and work out also tends to make feet warmer and more humid and damp than normal, this will again help the fungi to grow. Tight-fitting training dress can also support the growth of fungi.
Main Causes Of Athlete's Foot are:
- Keeping toe fingers damp or unclean for a long time
- Wearing dirty socks, especially synthetic
- Wearing plastic shoes regularly of for long time
- Staining or cracks on foot
- Spending long time in swimming pool, bathroom, shower, or changing room or using common places like locker rooms, saunas, communal bath, etc….
- Extremely sweaty feet
- By direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected person
- Direct contact with contaminates like shoes, floors, mats, bed linens, rugs, clothes, and other surfaces, because they also carry fungus.
- Household pets can also pass fungal infections to humans.
Symptoms Of Athlete's Foot are:
- Cracking of the skin surface
- Redness, swelling, and softening of the skin
- Bumps on the feet
- Itching, or burning, or both, on the affected body part
- Scaling of the feet
- Slight watery release from the affected parts
- Thick, brittle, ragged or discoloured toenails
- Unpleasant odour from the infected part
- Inflammation that spreads in part of the foot
- Skin of the affected area become dry
