Main Causes of Bronchitis are:
- Bronchitis occurs most frequently in the season of cold and flu, mainly together with an "Upper Respiratory infection".
- Many types of viruses cause bronchitis, and most common virus is influenza A and B that causes Bronchitis; it is popularly known as "Flu" virus.
- There are many forms of Bacteria that are known to cause Bronchitis, like Mycoplasma, which also causes supposed "Walking Pneumonia".
- One cause of Bronchitis is inhalation of irritating fumes or dusts, Chemical solvents; smoke (including tobacco and cigarette).
People at higher risk of getting Bronchitis include:
- People with weaken immune systems
- Smokers and people who are regularly exposed to second hand smoke
- The infants and aged people
- People with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- People who are continuously exposed to irritants at work place, like chemical - fumes from ammonia, chlorine, strong acids, sulphide, and hydrogen sulphur dioxide
Signs and symptoms for both acute and chronic bronchitis include:
- Fatigue
- Coughing
- Wheezing
- Inflammation or swelling of the bronchi
- Production of apparent, grey, white, yellow, or green mucus
- Shortness of breath
- Fever and cold
- Chest pain or uneasiness
- Runny or Blocked nose
- Acute bronchitis generally results in an irritating cough that remains for several weeks even after the bronchitis treated.
- In Chronic bronchitis's long-standing irritation leads to blemish of the bronchial tubes and airways, which results production of unnecessary mucus.
- Other symptoms of chronic bronchitis are regular respiratory infections and a cough that is poorer in the mornings and in humid weather.
