Main cause of conjunctivitis is viruses, but other common causes of conjunctivitis include allergies, bacteria, and environmental or chemical irritants. Some key causes of Conjunctivitis are listed below:
Viral conjunctivitis
The same viruses that are also often responsible for the common cold cause viral conjunctivitis. The common cold is extremely infectious and it is easily spread from one person to another, so anyone can easily transmit the virus to his/her eye by blowing their nose with their eyes uncover or rubbing their eyes.
Allergic conjunctivitis

Bacterial conjunctivitis

This is also is non-infectious type and is caused by contact to irritants include; contact lens solutions, chlorine from swimming pools, injury to the eye, smoke, intense light (i.e., snow blindness), foreign objects, and cosmetics
Medical Conditions
Some cases conjunctivitis may cause because of certain medical conditions. These include gout, certain types of cancer, thyroid disease, tuberculosis, and syphilis.
Common Symptoms Of Conjunctivitis are:
- Itching in the eyes
- Watery discharge from the eyes
- Eyes turn reddish (Redness in the white of the eye or inner eyelid)
- Thick yellow discharge from the eyes, which crusts over the eyelashes, (particularly after sleep)
- Green or white discharge from the eye
- Burning sensation in eyes
- Pus formation in the eyes
- Blurred vision
- Inflamed eyes
- Increased quantity of tears
- Increased sensitivity to light
