Some of the very common causes of depression are:
Family history
Genetics play key role in case of depression. Depression can run from one generation to other.
Pessimistic personality
Folks who have low confidence and a pessimistic viewpoint are at very higher risk of becoming depressed. Actually, these personalities may cause by low-level depression (medically known as dysthymia).
Trauma and stress
Factors like death of a loved one; break-up of a relationship, or financial problems, can bring on depression. One can easily become depressed after sudden changes in life like, after graduating from school, getting married, starting a new job.
Physical conditions
Severe medical problems such as HIV, cancer, and heart disease, can add to depression, somewhat because of mental tension and physical weakness they bring on. In many cases due to depression medical conditions become worse, because it deteriorates the immune system and can make difficult to bear the pain. In some cases, depression can also be caused by some specific medications that are used to treat medical situations.
Other psychological disorders
Schizophrenia, nervousness, and eating disorders can also cause depression.
Main symptoms of Depression:
- Loss of energy
- Self-loathing (Strong feelings of unimportance or guilt)
- Loss of interest in daily activities, like ability to enjoy former hobbies, social activities, pastimes, or sex
- Major weight loss or gain (i.e. more than 5% of body weight change in a month).
- Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness
- Sleep pattern changes, either insomnia (in this case particularly waking in the early hours of the morning) or hypersomnia (i.e. oversleeping)
- Psychomotor agitation or retardation
- Concentration problems like Trouble in focusing, unable to take any decisions, or problem in remembering things.
