Mainly Diarrhea causes because of short-term diseases, such as infection, chronic problem, like an intestinal disease, etc. Other known causes of diarrhea are:
Bacterial infections
Many different types of bacteria, consumed via infected foodstuff or water, can cause diarrhea. Bacteria responsible for diarrhea include Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella, and Campylobacter.
Viral infections
Numerous viruses can cause diarrhea, like herpes simplex virus, viral hepatitis, Norwalk virus, cytomegalovirus, and rotavirus.
Parasites
Different parasites can come into the body through water or foodstuff and settle down in the digestive system. Parasites that can cause diarrhea are: Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, and Cryptosporidium.
Food intolerances
Some people are not capable to digest some constituents of food, like lactose, the sugar present in milk.
- Some Intestinal diseases are also responsible for diarrhea like, celiac disease or inflammatory bowel disease, functional bowel problem like, irritable bowel syndrome (in which the intestines do not work properly).
- Diarrhea can also cause as side effect of some medicines, like blood pressure medications, antibiotics, and antacids that include magnesium.
- Some cases diarrhea develops as after effect of stomach surgery or removal of the gallbladder.
- Folks who travel foreign countries are at danger of traveler's diarrhea, which is caused due to eating food or drinking water, which is contaminated with viruses, bacteria, or parasites.
Symptoms of diarrhea may include:
- Regular loose, watery stools
- Abdominal pain and cramps
- Bleeding
- Fever
- Light-headedness or dizziness because of dehydration
- If Diarrhea is causes because of viral infection, then it may cause vomiting.
- If Diarrhea is caused because of bacterial infections then blood and mucus in the stools may appear
